  1. No woman, no man

I DON'T DO LOVESONGS. Or maybe they don't do me. They don't come to me usually. But this one did, late one night. Presented itself in an almost finished way, like one of these smooth oval pebbles you find on a beach, which are just there and you look at them and wonder where they came from. So at first I thought I didn't write it, that it was probably someone else' s song and I tried it out on some people without saying anything about it. But they didn't seem to know it either, so maybe it was my song. Maybe I did write it, although it feels more like I only recorded it.

Lyrics

NO WOMAN NO MAN

I bade you farewell and kissed you goodnight
Now I stand at your doorstep in the pale morning light
asking for forgiveness but you’re not the easy kind
And me saying I’m sorry ain’t gonna cut it this time

But babe I am, no woman no man, ever loved you like I do,
Like I do, I do, I do

I brushed you off, made fun of your flaws
called you a coward and threw shut the door
I said I didn’t need you, but just look at me now
trying to get closer, and I just don’t know how

But here I am, no woman no man, ever loved you like I do,
Like I do, I do, I do

I thought I was strong, and that I had won
made it into a contest, and just couldn’t stop
this ain’t no battle, and even if it was then I lost
I showed of the trophy, now I’m paying the costs

Here I am, no woman no man, ever loved you like I do,
Like I do, I do, I do

Will you take my bad with my good, pick me up when I hurt
forgive me my lies, believe me when I say that I try

I bade you farewell and kissed you goodnight
But I’m back at your doorstep in the pale, in the pale morning light
